This past November I had the chance to attend Showit UNITED in Phoenix, AZ. Showit UNITED is a photography conference hosted by Showit, a website platform (aka the one that I use!) that hosts websites specifically for photographers. This year was the tenth anniversary of the conference and sadly the last! I had heard about the conference for years, but this was the first time I had a chance to attend. It was 3 days jam packed of key note speakers, break out sessions, styled shoots, and even a fancy gala to attend.

Being a photographer and working from home can feel so isolating. Unless you know others in the industry working in your area, most of “your people” you meet online and become Instagram friends. So coming to attend these conferences is just the most fun getting to see and hug these friends in real life while also connecting with and making new friends from all over the country!

I actually arrived late the conference as I had to shoot a wedding the day it started, but nonetheless I made it and still had a fabulous time! Literally as I was walking into the conference I bumped right into Amy and Jordan AND Katelyn. If you know me and my story, these three people helped me become the photographer that I am today. Without them, I would not have made it this far. I actually just met all three of them about 3 months prior at the Creative at Heart Conference! It was so funny, “Long time no see!” really was the theme here at this conference! I had also just seen Katelyn at the Starbucks I love going to about 3 days before! So crazy!

Anyways, if you’re a photographer reading this, and haven’t found a community of like minded people in your industry, I highly recommend doing so. There’s nothing more encouraging and uplifting as having a support system that knows exactly what you’re going through and knows how to give the right advice and lift you up where you need it. This community of photographers and educators pulls me through everyday and I feel so lucky to have them in my life, whether in person or online.
