Just got home last night from our honeymoon and I’m already typing up this post! We had the most perfect time on our honeymoon to Cancún, Mexico this week!! We stayed at the Dreams Riviera Cancún Resort & Spa, and yes, it was in fact a dream!! We laid on the beach and by the pool and stuffed our faces with food and drinks until we physically couldn’t do it anymore, and it was the best week ever!!
Our wedding was in October, but we decided to wait to go on our honeymoon. It definitely was the best decision and gave us some time to rest after the wedding and still have something to look forward to after all the hustle and bustle and the holidays. I totally understand now why January vacations are the move!
We started our journey bright and early, well, still dark and early on Monday morning with a 3 a.m. wake up call. We had a short layover in Charlotte, but were back on the plane to Cancún after we ate our second breakfast of the day… one at 5 a.m. and the second at about 10 a.m. ha! We landed in Cancún around 2:30 p.m. and were greeted by the smell of salty air and a warm breeze! Aka the best way to start a honeymoon! The resort helped us set up transportation, so we hopped right in with our driver and off we went to the resort!!
When we arrived, we drove straight into one of the grandest entrances I had ever seen! They gave us cool towels, champagne, and took our luggage to our room for us. Let me preface, neither of us have EVER been to a 5 star, all-inclusive resort before, so we were pretty much in awe the entire week!! We were starving again by this point so we quickly got ready and headed out to our first dinner. But first, I had to go see the beach up close and put my toes in the sand! It was truly just too beautiful for words. We went to the Japanese restaurant for dinner, and this is where we found out that “all-inclusive” really did mean alllllll inclusive! The food was amazing and yes, we absolutely ate anything and everything!
Tuesday was our first full day, so we woke up a little early to take it all in. We had breakfast with bottomless mimosas and the yummiest, prettiest fruit bowl with our meals. We headed straight to the beach after we ate where we made friends with the bartender and he kept the piña coladas coming! The ocean was so clear and blue and the white sand felt like we were walking on a cloud. There was quite a bit of seaweed piled up on the beach, but wasn’t too bad in the water once you walked out a bit.
Around lunch time we made our way back up to the restaurant on the beach and once again, stuffed our faces. In the afternoon, we hung out by the infinity pool that looked out to the ocean and also had a swim up bar! I definitely fell asleep on the lounge chair, but thankfully avoided a sunburn the whole week!
We hung out by the pool the entire afternoon and then came back up to the room to get ready for dinner. This night we went to the Mexican restaurant and of course it was the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! So so so yummy!
Each day we did the exact same thing. Wake up, breakfast, beach, lunch, pool, nap, dinner! And it was all a dream!! We thought about heading into the town on our last day, but realized it would interfere with our fancy dinner reservation, so we’ll save that excursion for next time! 😉 For our last night, we booked the romantic dinner on the beach. They set up lights in the sand in the shape of a heart, gave us a bottle of wine, and had a four course meal. We watched the lit up cruise ships make their way down the coast and talked about life and how much fun we had had. It was the best evening and the perfect ending to our honeymoon.
I could go on and on and on about the details of each day and all the food and drinks we had, but we would be sitting here forever. Overall, it was the best week ever. I’ll never forget how special this week was and how blessed I am to call Chip my husband. He’s my rock and I don’t know where I would be without him.
We truly had such an amazing week and are so thankful for everyone who gave us a gift toward our honeymoon. Also super thankful for my Aunt and Uncle who gave us their guest pass into their membership where we got all the perks and benefits of a preferred member!
Here’s just some of my favorite photos from the week and look out for a vlog coming soon too!! Enjoy!
