Have you ever seen those super cool people who take a road trip across America and are really just living life to the fullest? Yeah, I’ve seen them too, and I got a glimpse into what that might be like last week.
My family and I took our vacation in road trip style this year. We flew into Texas for our first stop to see my brother and his family. My niece had her very first birthday and oh my goodness I’m very much obsessed with her. After three days there, our adventure really began with a flight into…wait for it…. Vegas Baby! We didn’t spend the night there, but don’t worry, we came back at the end of our trip.
After flying into Vegas, we drove straight to Zion National Park in Utah. I have been to Utah before and absolutely loved it so I knew this was going to be exciting. As soon as we got there, we headed straight for the trails. We hiked up about a mile and half to this absolutely stunning overlook. The trail couldn’t have been better either. It was a beautiful evening despite the rain coming in, but it was perfect for our dinner spot at a cute‘mom and pop’ type cafe. No day on vacation can be complete of course without ice cream, and oh man it was wonderful.
The next day we woke up super early to beat the heat, and started on our 5 mile hike up Angel’s Landing. If you’ve never heard of this place, go right now and look it up on YouTube. It is crazy! The last half a mile, you basically rock climb to the top while holding onto chains built in the rocks. Mom stayed behind for this part, but my dad and I were all in and set off huffing and puffing from the very steep hike up. Once we made it to the top however, holy heck, it was BEAUTIFUL! The view was absolutely incredible and totally worth the scary and tiring climb up. If you’re ever thinking about going to Zion, put this as your number one thing to do. Yes, the top climb can be a little challenging, but there were all kinds of people young and old, super fit and not so fit (lol me), that made it to the top. Take your time and rest, but definitely don’t give up.
There were definitely some other highlights that we didn’t get to do and see, but that just gives us another reason to go back. After our Angel’s Landing hike, we headed to our next destination…which I’ll tell you all about in the next post 😉
For now, I hope you enjoy these photos from our first leg of our road trip to Zion National Park in Utah.
Enjoy!
